Cheap hotels in Edinburgh

Edinburgh has less than 500 000 inhabitants, but there are 2.3 million tourists visiting the city every year. This is the second most popular tourist city in the UK after London.
Edinburgh is also the economic centre of Scotland, with a growth rate among the highest in Europe. Tourism, together with the financial sector, is one of the most important voices of the urban economy, with tens of thousands of people employed in the sector: all this is possible thanks to the beautiful historic and modern architecture, the important museums and cultural events such as the Festival of Theatre, which act as catalysts to the large influx of tourists. It is not surprising, therefore, that in a town of less than 500 000 inhabitants there are nearly 600 tourist accommodation, including hotels, apartments, hostels and B&Bs.

The selection of cheap hotels in Edinburgh is wide. 2 and 3 star hotels are located in the historical centre, in the neighborhoods of New Town, Cannonmills (to the north) and the long Mayfield Gardens, south of downtown. The average price for a double room with bathroom and breakfast in a 3 star hotel, ranges from 30-40 Euros, up to 80-90 Euros, depending on the location, the proximity to tourist sites and especially depending on the availability of special offers.

Being a tourist town, in fact, prices tend to rise during high season and when cultural events are held: during the Edinburgh Festival, the largest event in the theater world, prices are soaring, while during the low season, between mid-September and April, there are good proposals at discounted prices. There are many hotels in the area of the Central Station, Edinburgh Waverley, but also near the harbor, Leith, most of which overlook Leith Links Park.
